Not everyone naturally developed the perfect, Hollywood smile that they hoped for. However, with modern dental techniques, you don’t need to spend the rest of your life with alignment issues and crooked teeth. There are several orthodontic solutions available to help improve the function and appearance of your smile, but how much will this cost? Continue reading to learn about the factors that influence the cost of orthodontic treatment.

Cost of Initial Consultation

In order to determine the cost of your orthodontic treatment, you will need to start with an initial consultation. During this time, there will be an examination of your smile, and your dentist will provide you with a recommended treatment plan on how to make all the proper corrections. This consultation is often times at no cost, and you will receive necessary information on the treatment process, cost, financial options, and other key details.

Type of Braces You Choose

There are two main types of braces to choose from, and each will contribute to the cost of treatment differently:

  • Traditional Metal Braces: This orthodontic treatment consists of a wire which is held in place by brackets that are adhered to the teeth. The length of treatment will depend on the severity of your alignment issues and how well you care for them.
  • Clear Aligners: Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to slowly shift the teeth into their rightful places. While they are similar in price to traditional braces, they tend to cost a little more on average.

Complexity of Treatment

The cost of your treatment will vary depending on the severity of your misalignment. For example, if you have just a few gaps that need to be closed or some minor crookedness, this will cost less than if you have a severe crossbite or underbite. Just keep in mind that if you have more complex orthodontic issues, they will only cause additional problems and cost more down the road if left untreated.

Insurance Coverage

If you have dental insurance, it may cover a portion of your treatment. Be sure to check with your insurance provider ahead of time so you aren’t left with any unnecessary surprises. Sometimes, coverage will vary depending on the type of braces you choose and other factors.

Availability of Other Financial Options

Some practices offer additional financial options to make payments more realistic for you. Ask your dental team about the different options available.

Everyone’s smile is different, so the cost of treatment is as well! You can determine how much the price of your orthodontic work will be by scheduling a consultation. You will be showing off a straighter smile in no time!
