At Texas Dentistry, we are proud to offer various levels of sedation dentistry for our patients. If you just need help to take the edge off of your anxiety, we provide nitrous oxide. If you require more powerful help to stay calm and relaxed, IV sedation or oral conscious sedation might be a fit for you. Or, you might need the most powerful type of sedation there is — general anesthesiology. Most dental offices in our area are not able to offer this service, but we have all the training and equipment necessary to help you take advantage of it.
General anesthesia uses a combination of inhaled gases and intravenously administered medications to induce unconsciousness in patients. This is in contrast to other types of sedation methods, which may make you drowsy or even cause you to drift off to sleep, but which do not cause unconsciousness. When you are under general anesthesia, you will be unable to feel pain or respond to outside stimuli.
